Why You'll Love This Recipe
It's a great way to use up bunches of basil! I don't know about you, but any time I buy basil, it goes bad in 5 minutes. This feta dressing is a great way to use bunches of basil that are on the verge of being not-so-fresh. If you are tired of making pesto, this is it!
It can be a dip or a dressing! You can thicken or thin it out to be a dip or a dressing. It is extremely versatile, especially as a topping on my loaded greek feta fries!
No special ingredients required! You will need mainly pantry and fridge staples to make the base of this dressing. I assure you, this flavourful dressing is not complicated to make!
Recipe Overview
Flavour: This herby feta dressing is the perfect mix of salty and briny flavours, with fresh herby notes from the basil. Fresh garlic adds a little bite to the mix - you've got a perfectly balanced dressing. If you are a fan of basil, feta and garlic, you will love this!
Ease: This dressing is very easy to make. You can use a blender, food processor or even an immersion blender to get the proper consistency. This is a dump and blend dressing!
Time: You can have this dressing ready in 5 minutes.
Ingredients and Substitutions
Mayonnaise: As with any mayonnaise-based recipe, I always recommend using a good quality mayonnaise. You can also substitute Greek yogurt for the mayonnaise.
Sour cream: I recommend using fuller-fat sour cream for this dip. Low fat sour cream is often thinner in consistency, which is not ideal for a thick dip or even dressing. It is worth it in this case to go with the full fat option.
Feta cheese: I really enjoy using authentic Greek feta cheese, which is a blend of sheeps and goats milk. You can use cows milk feta cheese as well. I do not recommend using pre-crumbled feta cheese, as it is generally not as flavourful.
Fresh garlic: Fresh garlic is always best, especially when using it raw in a dip like this one. You can use minced garlic for convenience. If you do not like the taste of raw garlic, you may also substitute for garlic powder.
Fresh basil: If you are going to use basil, fresh is best. You may also use dill in place of basil, which also goes extremely well with feta!
Expert Tip
Save yourself the hassle! No need to pre-chop the garlic and basil. The blender does all the work for you. Add everything in, and it will come out perfectly blended every time.
