These everything bagel pretzel dogs make the perfect appetizer, or kid-friendly snack. Store-bought pizza dough makes for a convenient, yet delicious way to jazz up classic mini smoked sausages! A little extra step gives these dogs the taste and texture of pretzels, with an 'everything' bagel twist!
I can confidently say that very few people will ever complain about a dish that primarily consists of meat and dough. I mean, it's technically everything good in the world, mixed into one.
This recipe idea is inspired by a classic - pigs in a blanket. Pigs in a blanket are generally made with cocktail wieners, wrapped in crescent dough. They're quite frankly, addictive.
This version takes that classic combination, and blanches the wrapped sausages in a baking soda solution that gives pretzels their distinct colour, chew and flavour. They're just as good as those pretzel dogs from the mall, but smaller!
These mini pretzel dogs make the perfect addition to game day spreads, with taco pockets, pepperoni pizza pretzels, and buffalo chicken bites!

Instructions
START WITH...
Collecting all your ingredients - This will make cooking so much easier. Gather all the spices you will need, and keep them nearby.
Prepping the pizza dough - Roll out a ball of pizza dough to ¼ of an inch thick. Cut the rolled out pizza dough into 1x1 squares, big enough to wrap around the wieners.
Boil the water - Bring a large pot of water to a boil. You will want approximately 8 cups of water.
Preheat the oven - Preheat your own to 375°F.
Place a mini smoked wiener diagonally onto a square of pizza dough. Close the square of pizza dough on the front, pressing down firmly so it does not open. Repeat for all the wieners.
Add the baking soda to the pot of boiling water and let it dissolve. It will fizzle when added - this is normal! This is the same method used to make my buffalo chicken pretzel bites, for the same pretzel-like texture and chew.
Blanch the wrapped sausages for 20-30 seconds, and remove. Place on a parchment- lined sheet tray. Sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning, and bake for 15-20 minutes until the dough is golden brown.
Expert Tip
Dry off the mini sausages before wrapping them! They are generally vacuum-sealed and will have a little bit of 'juice' in them when you open the package. Patting them dry on a paper towel will help the pizza dough stick to the sausages during the blanching process!
Substitutions
- Mini smoked cocktail wieners - If you cannot find these, feel free to use regular hot dogs and cut them into thirds or quarters.
- Pizza dough - Feel free to use crescent rolls that are cut into smaller pieces. You can also use puff pastry, for a twist on 'sausage rolls'.
Variations
- Jalapeno cheddar - Instead of everything bagel seasoning, top these off with shredded cheddar cheese and a slice of jalapeño pepper for a spicy twist!
- Classic pretzel - Feel free to ditch the everything bagel seasoning and use coarse salt for a classic pretzel twist.
