I know croutons are technically just dried up toast cubes - technically. Is a salad really a salad without them, though? I'd argue no.
These sourdough garlic croutons are the perfect use for bakery bread that has gone a little too past its prime.
Season the bread In a large mixing bowl, sprinkle the cubed bread with the dry seasoning, and toss well.
Oil the bread Add the olive oil and fresh garlic while tossing the bread in the bowl. Coat evenly.
Bake the croutons Spread the bread cubes on a baking sheet in one layer. Bake for 30 minutes, until the croutons are golden brown and are crisp.
Use stale bread, when possible! Day old bread, or stale bread, is the perfect bread for croutons.
Use a grater for the garlic! Using a grater or a microplane is a great way to make fresh garlic paste.
