These air fryer chaat masala fries jazz up regular store-bought frozen french fries with a spicy and savoury flavour dusting. The result is perfectly crisp french fries that are far from boring. They come together in under 15 minutes, and are the perfect side to homemade sliders, or even chicken tikka and chicken kathi rolls!

Why This Recipe Works
There is a good chance that most of us have a bag of french fries laying around in our freezers. I am not so ashamed to admit that they are always on my grocery list because I get so lazy when it comes to dinner sometimes. Chicken tenders and fries tend to do the trick.
You'll love this recipe because it is simple, fuss-free, and more importantly is pantry-staple friendly. This recipe is adaptable to homemade french fries or potato wedges too! Once you get the spice dust down, you can put it on anything! If you love Indian-style potato snacks, aloo tikki chaat is a must try!
Ingredients
- Frozen shoestring fries: I prefer to use this variety of fries, as they crisp up really well in the air fryer, while still maintaining a light fluffy interior.
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Chaat masala: Chaat masala is a blend of spices, including mango powder, black salt and dried pomegranate. It adds a tangy flavour to the spice dust.
- Red chili powder
- Sea salt

Instructions
START WITH...
Collecting all your ingredients - This will make cooking so much easier. Gather all the spices you will need, and keep them nearby.
Add the french fries to an air fryer basket. Spray with cooking spray, and air fry for 7-10 minutes at 390°F.
Add the cooked french fries to a large mixing bowl. Sprinkle with the spices, and toss well.
Serve with your favourite dipping sauce, or yogurt & mint chutney.
Expert Tip
Shake your fries as they cook to get them evenly crispy and brown.
Season the fries while they are hot! This will ensure that the spices stick to the exterior of the fries.
Substitutions
- Shoestring fries: Feel free to use any fry cut that you prefer. This will work well with wedges, or steak-cut fries.
- Red chili powder: For a milder spin, you can use smoked or sweet paprika.
Equipment
This is what I used to make this recipe - Please be mindful that different equipment and cooking utensils may yield varying results. Most of my favourite equipment can be found on my storefront.
- Mixing bowl
- Air fryer
Storage
Store these fries in an airtight container in the fridge, for 3-4 days. To reheat, cover place in the air fryer covered in foil, to avoid the fries from drying out and getting overly crispy.
Because these fries take such little time to cook, I recommend making them fresh!
